Just last week the US Government started publishing the Federal Register in XML. A useful Australian equivalent would be publishing a daily listing of updates to all Gazettes (Government Notices Gazette, Australian Public Service Gazette, AusTender, Business Gazette, Tariff Concessions Gazette, Chemical Gazette, Food Standards Gazette, etc), legislation and statistics in a single XML feed.
A single feed for all publications updates would allow third parties to track issues of interest and reuse the information in ways that haven't been thought of yet.
