Scholarships to Gov 2.0 events - building skills across government

It would be great if the Taskforce, or it’s replacement, provided scholarships for ongoing public servants to attend these types of events to increase public sector expertise in the Gov 2.0 space. These scholarships could be for public servants new to the social media space and as part of their terms for participation have them required to maintain a blog and Twitter feed of their experience and provide presentations ...more »

Where are the gaps, how big are they, and how are they changing over time?

We hear about the gaps between indigenous and non-indigenous health stats, prison stats, job stats...the list goes on...but what do the gaps 'look' like? We see the media footage, we here the politicians, we can read the reports and the research but how can we grasp the geographic spread and the depth of the differences in a single view? Can we give the public the power to build 'maps' from current and projected data ...more »

Use of health data for research and services

Make publication of selected data sets part of each agency's formal outputs

One of the barriers to publication/disclosure of useful data sets is that it is a low priority compared other policy or service delivery obligations. The reality is that agency heads prioritise activities towards those things that are critical to delivery of their outputs and that are reported on in annual reports. Publication and disclosure of data requires effort (to ensure that the data is 'clean', accurately described ...more »

Arts and Creative Industries in Virtual Cities

Most cities use 3D virtual maps to aid in town planning. At the moment these are kept private. There is an opportunity to open this data as virtual environments where artists and those in the creative industries can create virtual public art and experiment with ways of reinterpreting urban space. This can be used as a crowdsourcing tool by planners, as an art space in its own right and if virtual cities are connected ...more »

Central aggregation site for government video video.gov.au

Government agencies have produced a substantial amount of videos over the years, that can help people solve their interaction challenges with government, get educated about new initiatives, access general news or find out other information.
